Transfer Credit

Course Equivalencies

Missouri University of Science and Technology accepts all college-level credits and grades from institutions that were formerly accredited by regional accredited institutions. Courses that are remedial, preparatory, vocational, technical or non-college-level will not be accepted and transferred to Missouri S&T. According to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), specifically:

  • Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACCJC)
  • Higher Learning Commission (HLC)
  • Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE)
  • New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE)
  • Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU)
  • Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)
  • WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC)

Use our online course equivalency database to determine if a particular course has an already established Missouri S&T course equivalency.  Courses are evaluated by the Registrar’s Office and/or discipline specific department. If the class is not listed, it does not mean that the class will not transfer to Missouri S&T; it simply means that the course has not yet been evaluated.

For questions about Course Equivalencies, please contact transfercredit@mst.edu.

Credit by Examination

Missouri S&T accepts AP (Advanced Placement) credit, CLEP (College Level Examination Program) credit, A-Level Exam credit, and IB (International Baccalaureate) credit. No credit is given for CLEP general exams--only for subject exams.  For more information, go to Credit by Exam.

Transfer credit from non-accredited institutions:

 Please submit the following documents:

  • Instructor credentials for each course completed
  • Syllabi for each course completed
  • Credential evaluation (international institution)

Please send this information to transfercredit@mst.edu.

If approved, these courses are transferred to Missouri S&T. Courses that are not approved by the discipline specific department do not transfer to S&T.

Transfer credit for Veterans:

Students who have served in the armed forces may be eligible to receive college credit for courses completed through the military or occupational specialty training.  The American Council of Education (ACE) recommendations in A Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experience in the Armed Services generally serve as a basis for granting such credit.  To count toward a degree, the credit recommended must be appropriate to the student's curriculum and must be determined by the academic department or appropriate faculty to be equivalent in content to courses at Missouri S&T.  Missouri S&T does not grant credit for military science or for courses that are strictly military/vocational in content.

Appeal process

Missouri University of Science and Technology accepts all college-level courses from accredited institutions. Courses that are remedial, preparatory, vocational, technical or non-college-level will not be accepted and transferred to Missouri S&T.

Students can appeal the decision of denied transfer credit; or if they feel it has been incorrectly awarded.

Appeal process:

  1. Students must contact the Department Chair of the academic unit of the class for which credit was denied. If there is not a correlating academic unit, the student must contact the Registrar’s Office to find out which department is most closely related.
  2. Student must submit the following to the academic department:
    • Course description
    • Course syllabus
    • Written statement from the Missouri S&T evaluation team regarding transfer credit in question. This should include any documentation collected in their review of the credit.
  1. If the outcome in step 1 is not satisfactory to the student, the student may appeal the decision to the Vice Provost and Dean of the college in which the academic department of the denied course resides. This is the final stop in the on-campus appeals process.
  2. If all resolutions of Missouri University of Science and Technology are not satisfactory, the student has the right to appeal to the Missouri CBHE committee on Transfer and Articulation.
