IV.  Changes in Schedule

A. Procedure for Dropping or Adding a Course. Students can usually add/drop through the online Joe'SS system. However, students who have time conflicts, attempt to exceed permissible hours, or are a first-time college student will need to use a paper add/drop form.  If a student wishes to make changes in their schedule, they should consult their academic advisor to ensure they are still meeting degree requirements.

1. If a student wishes to add a course to their schedule during the first two weeks (first week of an eight-week session) of a semester, they must receive the permission of the instructor of the course. Students who obtain a permission number from the instructor can enroll for the course through online Joe'SS system. Paper add/drop forms will need to be signed by the instructor and advisor. Students who wish to add a course after the second week (first week of an eight-week summer session) must complete a paper add/drop form, and obtain permission from chair of the department teaching the course, in addition to the course instructor and advisor.

2. If a student wishes to drop a course from their schedule, they must consult with their academic advisor and the instructor in charge of the course. Students may drop courses online through Joe'SS according to published calendar deadlines. Students should ensure all laboratory or other equipment has been checked in to appropriate persons, and lockers and other storage space have been vacated prior to dropping. A student may be dropped by the instructor if they do not have the prerequisites for the course. The Registrar shall notify the student if they are dropped by the instructor.

B. Effect on Grade of Dropping Courses. Courses dropped during the first six weeks of a semester (three weeks of an eight-week summer session) will not be recorded on the transcript. If a student officially drops a course after six weeks of a semester but prior to the last three weeks of classes (fifteen class days), a WD (Withdrawal) will be recorded on their permanent record by the Registrar. A student may not drop a course during the last three weeks of a class (fifteen class days) or during final examination week. A change from credit to "hearer" status in any course cannot be made  after the end of six weeks of a semester (three weeks during an eight week summer session).
