Scheduling of Facilities
The Office of the Registrar coordinates the use of academic classrooms for both academic and non-academic events. The Events and Hospitality Management office manages reservations for the Havener Center, Innovation Lab (Forum and Atrium), Welcome Center, Leach Theatre, and outdoor spaces. Some facilities are scheduled by specific offices (e.g., the Athletic Department manages athletic venues).

Centrally Scheduled Facilities
- Centrally Scheduled Classrooms
- Traditional lecture style classrooms that can be used by any department.
- Centrally Scheduled Computer Learning Centers (CLCs)
- CLCs are classrooms that have a computer at each student seat/station.
- CLCs should only be assigned to courses that require student use of computers during the course’s scheduled meeting time.
- Centrally Scheduled Distance Education Rooms
- Distance Education Rooms are classrooms used by certain distance course sections. They typically have TV displays and may have a green screen.
- Centrally Scheduled Active Learning Classrooms (ALCs)
- ALCs are designed to support instructional strategies that engage students as active participants in the learning process. The environment lends toward activity, group work, reflection, rather than traditional lecture-style learning. At S&T ALCs have the following attributes:
- Ample Space: An active learning classroom should have space to move around and allow for flexibility to utilize a variety of active learning approaches/methods within the space.
- Flexible/Mobile Student Seating: An active learning classroom should have mobile student seating/furniture to allow for flexible arrangements. Ideally, active learning classrooms have both mobile tables/chairs, but at minimum, the chairs should be mobile.
- Student Collaboration Tools: An active learning classroom offers tools and/or technology that help facilitate discussions, project-based learning, and other active learning instructional methods. These include multiple dry-erase boards, screens, and/or multiple monitors.
- Centrally Scheduled Active Learning LITE Classrooms (AL-Lite)
- AL-Lite classrooms may not offer all the attributes of an Active Learning Classroom (ALC) but have at least 2/3 of the following to support active-learning:
*ALCs and AL-Lite classrooms should only be assigned to courses where the content and instruction is centered around a student-led approach. Not to be used for traditional lecture pedagogy.
