Commencement Ceremony Instructions for Candidates

Candidates attending the ceremony should plan to arrive at the Gale Bullman Multi-Purpose Building one hour early.

Doctoral Candidates

Before the ceremony begins, be sure your tassel is on the left side of your cap. The faculty marshals will direct you to your seat. You should remain standing until you are asked to be seated. The Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs will present the candidates to the Chancellor. A faculty marshal will direct you and your advisor to the appropriate position. Present your name card to the announcer at the top of the stairs. You and your advisor advance to the center of the stage to be hooded. Return to your seat.

As you cross the platform your picture will be taken by a professional photographer. In a few weeks you will receive a proof. The proof will be sent to the address shown on the label of the name card.

After the Alma Mater hymn all graduates will follow the directions of the marshals in leaving the building.

Master Candidates

The Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs will present the candidates to the Chancellor by degree program. A faculty marshal will direct you to the platform stairs.  Present your name card to the announcer at the top of the stairs and proceed across the platform to receive congratulations. Return to your seat.

Bachelor Candidates

The Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affaris will present the candidates to the Chancellor by degree program. You should stand when your degree program is introduced and remain standing until asked to be seated. A faculty marshal will direct you to the platform stairs. Present your name card to the announcer at the top of the stairs and proceed across the platform to receive congratulations. Return to your seat.
