IX.  Unsatisfactory Work

A. The first semester an undergraduate student earns a S&T semester GPA below 2.000 for a fall or spring semester, they will be subject to the following restrictions during the next fall or spring semester in which they enroll:

  • The student may not enroll in more than 13 credit hours
  • The student may continue participation in any recognized student organization in which they are already a member, but may not join additional recognized student organizations
  • The student may not hold an office in a recognized student organization
  • The student may have additional restrictions placed on them by the chair of the academic department for their declared major

These restrictions listed above may be waived or modified by the Vice Provost of Undergraduate Education

These restrictions do not apply to summer semesters, intersession or during a university-recognized co-op work period.

Appeals related to student organization participation must be made within 10 school days following notification of the academic status and initiated in the student activities office.

B. If an undergraduate student has earned a S&T semester GPA below 2.000 for a fall or spring semester, and had at least one previous fall or spring semester with a S&T GPA below 2.000, they will not be allowed to enroll in additional fall and spring semesters unless one of the following occurs:

  • If the student has a declared major, the chair of the academic department housing that major grants permission for the student to continue their studies.
  • The student applies for, and is accepted into, a new major.
  • The vice provost for undergraduate education approves the student’s continued registration without a declared major.
If the student fails to obtain permission to continue their studies prior to the first day of the following fall or spring semester, their registration will be canceled, and fees paid for canceled courses will be refunded in full.
If the student obtains permission to continue their studies, they will be subject to the restrictions listed in section IX.A.

C. If an undergraduate student is allowed to enroll without a declared major, the director of the S&T Advising Center will have the authority to act in the same capacity as the chair of the student’s major department.

Students who have no declared major will not be allowed to graduate.  Such students must be accepted into a major by the chair of the appropriate academic department before they will be allowed to graduate.

D.  Students who have completed the Foundational Pre Direct Core courses, but have not been admitted to an academic department, are subject to the restrictions listed in section IX.A.

E. Students who have spent four semesters working on the Foundational Pre Direct Core courses, but not completed them, are subject to the restrictions listed in section IX.A.

F. A student will be denied permission to enroll in additional courses if their academic record includes one or more ‘F’ or ‘U’ grades, and no grades of ‘A’, ‘B’, or ‘C’.  This rule may be waived by the vice provost for undergraduate education.

G. Students must complete 9 credit hours in a fall or spring semester with a GPA of 2.0 or higher to be considered in good standing and remove restrictions listed in section IX.A.

H. Part-time students who cannot meet the nine-hour requirement may continue their studies if approved by their academic department but will continue with the restrictions outlined in section IX.A.
