How do I know if I don’t have the prerequisite?

  • When searching for a class in Joe’SS you will find the prerequisite information in the notes section of the class.  In addition, when registering for the class in Joe’SS you will be prevented from completing the registration if you do not meet the prerequisite for the course. 

 
What is a permission number?

  • A permission number is a 6 digit number given by the department teaching the course (usually instructor) allowing a student to enroll in the class. 

 
How do I get a permission number?

  • You obtain the permission number from the department teaching the course. 

 
Where do I enter the permission number?

  • When registering for classes in Joe’SS you will enter the permission number on the second  screen of enrollment for the course.

 
I have a permission number so that means I am ok to take the class?

  • Permission numbers only allow you to enroll in the class.  Students must still complete all prerequisites to remain enrolled in the class.  If the student does not meet all prerequisites, the department teaching the course may allow you to remain in the class. That is department/instructor specific and any questions should be directed as such. 

 
Who determines if I am dropped from my class?

  • The instructor has the final decision.

 
What happens if I lose my permission number?

  • You will need to request another permission number from the department teaching the class.

 
What if I feel I was wrongly dropped from a course for lack of prerequisite?

  • You should contact the teaching department immediately to discuss why you were dropped. 

 
I am a campus student.  How can I enroll in a distance section?

  • You will need a permission number from the department teaching the course to enroll in the distance section.

 
My campus section is full, can I enroll in the distance section for the same class?

  • No.  You will have to use a permission number from the department teaching the course to enroll in a distance section.
